Cam - If you haven't already bought the new KoL cd have a word with the Woodmeister before you do so - he probably has a copy going cheeep cheep as he was hugely underwhelmed by it. (He did say I told him so!) Far better to invest your pennies in the new Bright Eyes cd -the reviews in the press for ...

I'd recommend 'Its a Wonderful Life' as a starter. PJ Harvey and this site's fave - Tom Waits are on it. Indeed mark Linkous, who is, to all intents and purposes, is Sparklehorse, is on the new TW 'Orphans' set, out last week. Saw them at Concorde 2 in Brighton a few years back - don't go to one of ...

I saw Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire supporting The Handsome Family in Brighton several years ago. Truly excellent, especially the female fiddle player (Nora O'Connor). Spoke to them after the gig and purchased the then current cd, The Swimming Hour, which although good, didn't do the live experience ju...

Glad you are seeing the sights - keep outta Telford shopping centre though! Having said that the Holiday Inn holds a few good memories for me (say no more!)

One More Twist is indeed an album that falls into the category of 'lost classic'. I have a cheapo cheapo best of FZ which is probably all you need to own.

well remembered old chap! FZ were a much under rated band who never really got the praise or attention they deserved. Some of the solo John Watts stuff is also worth checking out (I shall dig out some of his vinyl this weekend from my record store) I seem to remember that he went out on the road fai...

But what do you want it to say about your life, Cam? I saw Seth live recently down our way, and although I wasn't bowled over thought he was pretty good. His marketing though is spot on and is bringing more people to listen traditional English folk (as opposed to this ridiculous Devendra Banhart and...

I am assuming you want the names to be included in the lyrics, rather than songs about other artists. In which case how about 'I Wanna be your Joey Ramone' by Sleater-Kinney 'Sweet Gene Vincent' by Ian Dury and the Blockheads 'Levi Stubbs' Tears' by Billy Bragg 'Alex Chilton' by The Replacements 'Do...

Funnily enough, saw the Spinto Band on some of the Beebs Reading coverage over the weekend. Liked the fact that the lead singer was playing an electric mandolin and thought the tune was pretty good (certainly better than most of the Arctic Chiefs and Kaiser Monkeys' banal mainstage penguin droppings...

Cam old boy, I thought you used your Hull connections for musical inspiration!
Have you heard the new Dylan yet? I may have to wait a week or so as I've ordered it alongside reissued 'Millstone Grit' by Michael Chapman, which I think isn't released until next week

Fellas Good to see some of you starting to explore the weird and wonderful world of Mr Hitchcock. His vast past catalogue is well worth exploring, both as a solo artist and with the Soft Boys and the Egyptians. A lot of his stuff has been rereleased and rereleased again in differing formats, so if y...

How about 'World Turned Upside Down' - The Oysterband refer to the song when they play it as their choice for new national anthem. I'd quite like (with new words relating to UK or England whichever we are talking here) Woody's 'This Land is Your Land'.

Saw him at Glastonbury (in the acoustic tent!) some years back. He kicked up a storm live, although his metal tinged tunes caused a few people to step back and exhale deeply. He was also able to play country fairly straight but I don't think the mixing of the two styles worked terribly well. I can't...

Correct me if I'm mistaken but the McGarrigle/Wainwright family album is called 'The McGarrigle Hour'. They also brought out 'The McGarrigle Christmas Hour' last year. DWBK is indeed a bit of a classic, although their first, self titled album, is the best place to start IMO. I agree that young Rufus...

After quite a few plays still can't get into the new Lips offering. It's on my ipod now and perhap...
