Re: Thales and Higgs Boson

Thanks all, Wow. I was inspired when I made a connection in my head; being rusty on the poetry front it came out too jumbled on the page. I'll rework it when work settles down and see if I can't fix some things. I just got too caught up in certain words. Oh and: Sorry to be rather negative No need f...

I agree with the others. Wouldn't change a thing.

What does "glissando" mean?

"worldly-wisest" is a great invention (is it yours?)

Thales and Higgs Boson

Thales and Higgs Boson The whole world was once considered water. It was said that God saw his reflection in its depth and molded a mirror in the skies. It was water that first propped up the land and fell on us when the living clouds cried. These days, it is considered far more profound to say the...

Anyone else heard of this guy? The man can write lyrics and knows what hip-hop is all about.

sorry to read this, but it is logical.

Not sure if my absence of presence is more to blame for the "staid."

I think I have befriended the wrong Kris Thain on FB.

fare thee well,

Re: Next

Given the brevity, I'm not sure there is much to criticize. Seems like a playful transition in a collection. I like the rhyme, and the ant/magnifying glass reversal. If there is a deeper meaning, I'm missing it. In a western culture full of ADD and ADHD, though, I think the poem has a special signif...

Re: The Riddle of the Gun (Sam Harris)

SS - what do you think of this article? I think Harris makes a lot of sense and got it right. But I'm just a guy, not a criminologist. I lived in a bad part of St. Louis for many years. I know responsible gun owners - avid hunters, or ex-military types who know a thing or two about actually defendin...

Exactly. Not only a commentary on the one choosing, but also on the prospects. We are all cliche's, and this is especially true of first impressions.

Actually I don't get annoyed, I don't know why I wrote that.

I like the edits, and the new title.

Re: William

I feel like this wants to be iambic pentameter and with a few tweaks, could be without sounding forced. On the other hand, I know that many on here (myself included) sometimes stray from strict adherence. Here's a proposal: An Aynsley vase of plastic daffodils now gathers dust. Alone she writes with...

Re: Mark Lawson on prequels and sequels

do you have an opinion on this article, David? A lot of stuff was mentioned that I had never heard of (not so much the classics but the 'spinoffs'). Seems like this is a marriage of comic book story telling (using the same character over and over) and fan fiction. It seems to me (having never attemp...

Re: Two poems on recent events

I like these as well, especially the first one but the second as well. Sometimes it is hard to write good poetry when emotions are running high, but these work well, even if they aren't subtle. I'm with kj, I don't think these need titles.

A dryness accompanies winter, begins with the last falling leaf, heaters are clicked up a notch or two and lip balm's zipped into a pocket. Chapped lips , - are chapped lips a mannerism or a by-product? a mannerism of the season. A winter mannerism. Freshly paneled pine tongue and grooves itself acr...
