Re: This Weekend
Was delighted to see Pauline from the forum at the exhibition half an hour or so ago. She'd come with her son, and they bought plenty of raffle and tombola tickets. The exhibition has now made enough money to pay for the hire of the hall, so all this extra money is going towards supporting the art g...

Re: This Weekend
I never openly plug my books here, or individual artworks for personal profit. This is not 'my' exhibition. It's an exhibition of the work of students of artist Trish Hudson-Moses. Profit from the exhibition goes to helping her buy art materials for some of the groups she teaches, particularly those...

Re: This Weekend
That's brilliant! I know I'm always really pleased when any art teacher of mine wins a major prize. It shouldn't matter one way or another, but human nature being what it is, one does see it as a validation and guarantee of quality.

This Weekend
Be there if you can! Over two hundred pictures, including more than twenty of my own for sale at knock down prices. Also, this being a village hall: lots of lovely homemade cakes and cups of tea, plus a tombola with daft prizes.

That sky is pure poetry. Beautiful photo. Perfect silhouettes in the foreground too.

Always a pleasure to see these. Love the little bird - draws the eye, makes one sees from a bird's or even an insect's perspective.

Re: Empirical Magazine
They've sent me two copies of the magazine, and a cheque for $5. I took the cheque down the bank and spent a while watching the poor girl dealing with it trying to work out how to fill the form in so that it could slip seamlessly into my account without me being charged $30 or something for the priv...

Re: Whitby 2012
ooh, me too. I wrote some haiku on the beach at Sandsend last week, but I don't think I've ever written anything on a boat (probably because I don't think I've been on a boat since I started writing).

Re: Whitby 2012
Thank you everyone! Painting outdoors has its challenges, particularly with everything the North Yorkshire weather can throw at you, but it's great fun and gets rid of any fiddly precision.

Re: Whitby 2012
Thanks Ros! Yes, they were great fun. The last one was painted a spot just in front of the hotel where Bram Stoker was staying when he wrote 'Dracula', so you have to imagine a black dog swimming for shore from a shipwreck just out of sight.

Whitby 2012
A random selection of some of the artwork I produced last week in and around Whitby/Sandsend/Robin Hood's Bay. Painted outdoors, mostly very quickly, hence the rough and ready feel to some of them. http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/225/b/b/whitby_from_sandsend_1_by_delph_ambi-d5awxxi.jpg http:/...

Thanks Jane! Yes, definitely a good-looking grandfather. Wish I'd known him, but all my grandparents were long gone before I appeared on the scene.

Thank you Seth! I have a whole album of old family photos, so will no doubt be producing more portraits of this type in due course.

Re: Henry Lewis Tanner
Thanks Lake. I had to do this from an old photo, as I never knew my grandfather. The photo would have been taken in the early 1900s. Portraiture takes a lot of practice, but it's great when it starts to work. I gave my mother a portrait of my late father for her birthday a few weeks ago, and she lov...

Re: quiet ferry, lone boat
Love it.
There's some mystery here - the boat's reflection shows a sail, but the boat hasn't got one. I don't know if that was deliberate, but | really like the effect. Suggests all sorts of stories/poems, as art should do, of course.

I like the colours in both, and the abstract qualities, but the blurriness makes me want to squint at them to sharpen them up.

Had a go at drawing my grandfather at art class this morning.
