Re: Who's reading what?
David, KJ, thanks.
Ian, the "very much of his time" criticism regarding Heinlein seems widespread. And most of that seems silly, like feminism-gone-wrong assessments of misogyny, etc. How do you mean it?

Re: Who's reading what?
Too much of a good thing, surely? Well, I don't want to shit on the book but, I read the standard version in my early teens and found it to be an incredible slog. It's not as bad this time around, but it's not like I'm tobogganing down a hill with glee either. Still, I rarely feel the poorer for ha...

Re: The Black Angels
I didn't know about the book. Cool. Carcosa! I really liked the show as well. The Sopranos is still the best TV I've ever seen, but TD was the best I've seen in a while. I hear there is another series with different characters though? Yeah I read something about that. I think the plan is to go to ne...

Black people often take an instant disliking to me... Not just black people, believe me. Yeah, I was gonna say, he left out white people, reds, yellows, albinos, little green men, purple people eaters, Martians, Zeta Reticulans, Reptilians, Cardassians, fish, plankton, cetaceans, Klingons, Vulcans,...

Greetings. A nice little stopping of the clock. My sort of thing. Critically, there are three things that jump out at me. First off, the first line would read more smoothly to me if it went like this: Everything has a n ear to the ground. Secondly, the pathetic fallacy is obtrusive, especially regar...

Re: Who's reading what?
One thing that struck me was that most of the stories don't really read like the work of a short-story writer - more like sketches of novels that never took off…the stories are heavy on atmosphere and relatively light on plot. Ah, yes! In hindsight, I think I did feel that while reading, but it nev...

I have you on my radar now. In a hailstorm of other "blips" I’m sure. It’s a price I’m willing to pay. I am not sure how rude "caviling whinge" is Suppose it's inordinately rude. What then? Well, I pay some sort of social cost and lie in the bed I made. The end. There's no prece...
