Re: Any Frost fans out there?

Kil, trust me, if you don't like Frost you haven't given him sufficient reading. I highly advise you to read some of the ones I listed above. They are more than what they may at first appear. Inc. Oh yeah, Geoff, I agree totally. Speaking of wavering between two poles, what do you think of the dilem...

Re:

Inc the imagery all pointed to the inner city. Unfortunately, the language doesn't seem to suit that setting. It feels a little like Julius Caesar in modern dress. og I agree totally with that. I can't help but imagine this kid moving in slow motion with a classical orchestra playing exultant music...

Welcome D. I am new to the forum as well. Thank everyone for the criticism. Before I answer specific points made I'd like to briefly explain the concept behind the poem. I used to teach at an inner city high school and the speaker of this work is a black American inner city youth. The poem was writt...

With "My November Guest" I at first thought that his sorrow was personified as a woman who helps the speaker see a November day as beautiful. Now I believe the speaker to be referring to some unnamed female companion who has this effect on "My Sorrow." I love that she challenges ...

I agree with Pseud on everything but: "Shakespeare or Herbert or Gerard Manley Hopkins wrote poetry on religious themes, these words were common place. It would be much more natural to use the language of this day, in my opinion." One does want to capture a natural voice, but not necessari...

The Best Season

Asphalt forms the black-top on which I play, And blood-red proceeds from my legs When knees I scrape. Tight kinks crown my head like saintly halos As I stroll amongst dense brick Of earthly ghettos. My shape is lean and I seem as glistening bronze When seen to perspire at sport Under a summer's sun.

First, I'm amazed at all the hostility to a religiously motivated work. I never looked to see if it was just one hater or if is the general atmosphere of the forum. (speaking of which, hello everyone) As for the poem itself, the content is reminiscient of George Herbert--who is great at the sort of ...

I too wondered why the trees were painted white or black. It reminds me of one of those indie songs where you don't care what it means because it sounds pretty with a guitar. I do think I understand what you meaan by the white virgin eyes bit though? You were simply saying pure and unblemished like ...

To get the ball rolling, here is Frost's "My November Guest": My Sorrow, when she's here with me, Thinks these dark days of autumn rain Are beautiful as days can be; She loves the bare, the withered tree; She walks the sodden pasture lane. Her pleasure will not let me stay. She talks and I...

No, its not an assignment. I'm just into his work.
Yes, he did produce quite a bit of work. There are several of his that really resonate with me that I want to get some other takes on. "Reluctance" is another one that I really like. Inc.

Any Frost fans out there?

There are a few Frost poems I would like to discuss with any interested person. Anybody read any of the following?: My November Guest Revelation The Telephone Love and a Question I would love for someone to give me their take on any of these poems. I have thought about them a lot and want to talk ab...
