Re: Chopsticks
Thanks Delphi_ambi, yes now you point out the anomalies I can see the problems. I’ll have a few hours of drawing eyes and maybe a few skulls to familiarise myself with the structures a little more. I’ll also experiment with eye reflections and find what works best with my style of drawing. I’ll get ...

Re: Charcoal sketch
Gavin, It was not my intention to come across as disappointed, perhaps realistic in so much that I expect to do better with the benefit of experience and by being more disciplined. These first sketches are quite heavily worked as I learn to be more critical of the lines I produce on the page which m...

Re: shadow play
It's actually interesting to note the shadow and like you say it's a fun picture which is an element of creativity which is easy to overlook when striving to come up with interesting subject matter. There is the caterpillar and the painted surface which does make the caterpillar appear vulnerable. a...

Re: Hadrian's Wall
Landscapes are more my thing and I think this would be better with more steps through the landscape to draw the viewer in to find the magic bits.

Re: Charcoal sketch
Gavin, once again with this picture, looking back I can see I have been a bit sloppy, lost interest in the hands a bit and began thinking of the next picture when I should have buckled down a bit more. I'll probably re draw this one in the near future and apply some improvements. Your observations a...

Re: Medium pencil exercise
John, Once again thank you for your thoughtful feedback, I value it. In less than a week I’m pleased to be showing some improvement and I will try harder. Neil, I did this one in part from a photo, and improvised a lot to make my drawing my own albeit a bit out of proportion here and there, the grea...

Damn thing wouldn't fit the scanner, I decided to try different pencils and paper but had to take a pic with my camera to be able to post it

Re: Charcoal sketch
Thanks Delphi_ambi, maybe I'll just draw hair lol. "Draw what I'm actually seeing" easier said than done with figures when I'm doing it :D That's valuable advice which I'll keep in mind. Many thanks. John, Once again thank you for your honest and encouraging reply. I'll get back to the dra...

Re: George Szirtes
Another impressive sketch, I can see I have a lot of time drawing figures and faces to put in if i'm going to reach a standard I'm happy with. Thanks for the opportunity to view work that's evolved through experience of drawing faces. I'm finding the upper area of the eye socket a little heavily sha...

Charcoal sketch
Right, I'm kind of finding it hard to stop drawing now I've started. I probably bit off more than I can chew yet, but hopefully improved on some aspects in respect of the last effort, I just used charcoal pencils this time.

Re: It's stopped raining!
A very fresh set of images, the apple stands out to me as I can practically taste it when I look at the picture. These kinds of shots are right up my street, my only real crit is perhaps with the flower shots it might be useful to shoot from a perspective which pulls a little more of interest into t...

Re: Melancholy (mixed media sketch)
Delph_ambi, thanks for your crit, it has been a useful exercise in showing me how much I need to draw often to hopefully regain and improve upon my skills. I’ve had the intention to get back into it for a while, the recent posts here by yourself and others has reminded me how much I enjoy the frustr...

Melancholy (mixed media sketch)
Having been inspired by the work of Delphi_ambi and Mic, and the fact it's been pissing rain most of the day I thought I'd have a dabble with a bit of charcoal and a few assorted pencils. Figures and faces are not really my natural subjects but after seeing some interesting pieces posted recently I ...

Re: tectonic shift
I like the juxtaposition of primary and secondary colours and the delivery of strokes but would enjoy the picture more if you'd have had a few more hints of forms generated by the placements of those primary and secondary colours. A little more blending of the primary and secondary colours in chosen...

Thanks John, I´ll take your points on board and consider them when I revise the poem. Neil, thanks for your input. Some useful points to consider. All the best. Lake, Glad you enjoyed the structure and content. I might flesh it out a bit more and see how it looks but I will try and preserve the appr...

Re: Stripes
Dephi_ambi Thank you for viewing and replying. I find wasps rather fascinating as they busy them selves at this time of year, glad I'm not the only person who likes them. :D Marten, It's a macro shot, I don't like over cropping as it seems to lose something even with a very high res camera, plus get...

Re: eagle to eyrie
That's a tough picture to get right. To my eye it would be better if you had split the picture into at least three distinctive depths of field in respect of the depth of colour applied. You seem to have too little white light in the backdrop or maybe you could have gone cooler with it as well as pal...

Re: Rosie
You seem to be prolific with these drawings. It's not too easy to know what you're after by way of constructive crit as I don't know your goal in respect of the picture. I find the style endearing but it looks to me as though you are not fully aware of your ability to fully control some aspects of y...

Re: Hand Mixing Colour
Thanks John, the second picture was posted to illustrate how the scene can change in a split second. I wouldn't have posted it as a stand alone image as there was a bit more movement than I had anticipated, hence the lack of focus due to my reaction when a substantial amount of water headed straight...
