I read this today and thought it was completely depressing, but then again I suppose that's what you're supposed to expect from Hemingway. I'd like to read a couple more of his so does anyone have a suggestion for what to go for next?

Read the short stories, Raisin. They're wonderful. Something like this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/First-Forty-Nin ... 615&sr=1-1

Thanks David, I've ordered that one, looks great. Amazon is very bad for me, but at least if my entire student loan goes on books I can say it's for educational purposes.

I definitely struggled, though the other book of short stories that David suggested should be arriving soon so I'll give that a go.k-j wrote:Yeah, short stories. Old Man is the only Hemingway I've read and not liked.

I'm studying English with Creative Writing at university which I reckon means I should probably be reading something. I've been reading the First Forty-Nine Stories by Hemingway and I'm really enjoying them- I think that's a good reason to read, I don't think I've ever really forced myself to read a book unless there's at least been a small part of it that I enjoyed.JohnLott wrote:Why read any of him at all?
