Amazon.com has taught readers that they do not need bookstores. Now it is encouraging writers to cast aside their publishers.

I also sense that it has been gathering momentum since the beginning of the year, maybe as late as early Spring. I follow a lot of writery and self-publishing types on twitter and for fiction mainly, I think, there seems to be a lot more talk about self-publishing and the benefits of it to readers and writers as the new industry model.
