I enjoyed very much listening to Margaret Atwood reading aloud and discussing Mavis Gallant's short story, "Voices Lost in Snow."

I like Gallant's short stories a lot, but this one has the added twist of being nearly autobiographical. She's another Canadian author who died recently.

I am concluding that you are Canadian, Jackie. How is it going out there in Nova Scotia?

Actually, I'm American. I have a Canadian sister-in-law who insidiously gifted me with Canadian literature at every opportunity until I began asking for more.

Cunningly combining that American / Canadian thread, I assume you've read Canada by Richard Ford, Jackie. What did you think?

I did. Not a lot happens - with one startling exception - but it happens exquisitely.
