hello
i have just signed up having "lurked" for some time I wanted to improve my understanding and writing of poetry and you seem like a friendly bunch.
i have read the rules and will have a look around this expanse of imagination for something to comment on. (Although i am a complete beginner and that feels a little odd)

Hello Billy,

Welcome to the site. I'm quite new here too and looking forward to seeing your work.

Great name by the way, from one of my favourite books!

Hi.
Welcome.
Many of us feel we are still beginners and giving a critique is a challenge when you don't know the jargon or forms or classics or.....
Feel comfortable that you are in a boat with many other uncomfortable struggling, critiquing poets.

Welcome Billy as you say it is a pretty friendly bunch here, don't worry too much about your first comments a simple 'I read this and enjoyed it' or a 'it didn't work for me' is as good a start as any. If you feel able to expand more on why a poem did or didn't grab then great, but the overall impression can be enough to tell the writer if the poem is working or not.

Hey, billycasper.

As paisley and Ben said, don't worry about providing crits. Just say what the poems make you feel. When in doubt, what I tend to do is give a good/bad/good sandwich  .

This is a fun and supportive place, esp in Beg forum. Dive on in, and you'll feel comfy in no time. This is not place for rights or wrongs, it's a place to share and learn.

Grab your consumable-of-choice (beer, wine, chocolate or kebab) and dip a toe or ten.
