Dear members,

Can I draw your attention to the arts forum to emphasise that it's not just for paintings. IE mine and a couple of other contributors. :)

Drawings, sketches, paintings using all mediums, including mixed media, are very welcome.

In addition, it also very much encourages photography, so if you have any interesting pic's please go ahead and post them. I, for one, would be very interested to look at your efforts. It's one of the most exciting art forms around, especially with the way modern technology is developing.

Just sayin'

"This is intended to be an experimental forum where artists and poets can engage in a dialogue. It could involve photos or drawings or paintings or poems or other kinds of art work.

Ted Hughes famously collaborated with two photographers: Fay Godwin (Remains of Elmet) and Peter Keen (River) - so I'm hoping that this area might spark some interesting joint projects. The collaboration process could work in either direction i.e. photos inspiring poems or poems inspiring photos.

There are three ways to post a photo:

1) Attach it directly to your post; photo appears.
2) Provide a hyperlink to a site such as photobucket/myspace etc where you have previously uploaded it. (Photo doesn't appear.)
3) Surround that hyperlink with "Img" tags (from the edit bar); photo appears.

However, to avoid distorting the shape of the forum or eating into our bandwidth please ensure that photos are no bigger than 600-700 pixels in width.

Please remember that copyright law applies to photos too. Therefore you should only post photos which you have taken yourself or where the owner has specifically granted their permission.

Anyway, I'll be interested to see what develops. Go with the flow; have fun."

PS Needless to say, we don't want this to turn into Poets' Porn!

Good point JJ - there is alively debate going on in the visual arts community about what they call 'conceptual poetry', in many ways a continuation of the initiations of the concrete poetry movements (most active in the 50's and 60's … you could also call it 'text art' … but anyway considerable interest from both sides of the fence . . . It would be great to see some more 'experiments' here . . . My own 'dadagrams' and lotus's excellent image/word plays perhaps belong more in this section.

Thanks for the reply, Jules

The arts, in general, are an ever evolving form, particularly the conceptual aspects of art and thought, and how they affect our perceptions. I personally believe that the internet and the astonishing developments in digital photography have had a freeing effect on both art and writing, in so much that there's so much material out there to consider and absorb. People are more willing to think and adapt, and are now able to experiment further with new ideas, impressions and form, notably within the arena of the abstract.

I often share my work with a guy I know, who just happens to be a marvellous artist/cartoonist. He uses digital manipulation to adjust his drawings and paintings to great effect, claiming that it helps him to present his initial thoughts as well as the unexpected turns that the creative process often brings. Many painters, for example, have said that if they knew how a painting was going to turn out they wouldn't have bothered putting brush to canvas in the first place. I like the idea of the old and new coming together to push the boundaries a touch. I definitely have a couple of poems that would benefit from his magic touch if he agreed to try a collaborative ekphrastic work. Something to consider.

"My own 'dadagrams' and lotus's excellent image/word plays perhaps belong more in this section." ...I couldn't agree more, although the main poetry forums do accommodate experimental poetry of this sort as well. I'd love to see more art and more ideas emerging, and although I might seem to be entrenched in the modern/traditional, it's mainly because of my love of all things natural. I was born a romantic but still thoroughly enjoy experimental art, poetry and architecture. :)

Good to hear from you.

Best
