Ooops, I'm a little late but this has been a fabulous thread - a bit like sneaking into the kitchen at a party. Keeping me smiling all Christmas.

Sorry Nash, as you'd finished it so beautifully with that great track but a final couple from me.....

Until next year.....

Anyway, thanks for joining in all and a happy new year to each and every one of you!
It's already an institootion. I'm looking forward to next year's already too. Well done again, Nasher. There'll be an OBE in this for you yet.

Thanks for popping by Nicky. Ahh, Life of Brian, one of the best scenes from one of the best films.

Aww shucks David, if we were in the same room I think I'd give you one of those friendly punches on the shoulder.

Can I rebaptise the first half of January as the "most miserable time of the year" - is it just me that finds myself trapped between looking back at the last 12 months and forward to the next - seeing nothing of value stretching out like dead pylons in each direction? Maybe I just need a few more hours of daylight.
The rest of you...keep banging the rocks together.

Well, it's that time of the year again. Has it really been two years since we started this thread?

How about a bit of Withnail & I as an opener this time round?

That was fantastic, Geoff! I've never seen that before. I used to have a couple of the Lone Wolf and Cub comics years ago, I'd forgotten all about it.

How about some more Shinobi type shenanigans? Have we had Lady Snowblood before?

I didn't even know it was a comic, John, but I'd seen clips of it on a weird late-night program on C4 many moons ago,
then spotted it on a list-of-films site yesterday (this "found poetry" lark is becoming an obsession!)
It looks to me like it was a TV series (?)

You mentioned her IIRC and she was on that C4 show too (I think) - there was a great clip of her being attacked at night by ninjas floating down silently on kites. Does that ring a bell?

Kick-ass women - you can't beat 'em!
Plus the katana is a work of art yet a terrifyingly efficient weapon that attracts and repels me at the same time.

There's quite a few new-ish full-length Martial Arts films on YOUTUBE these days (in decent quality and with subtitles)
I'll report back.

In the meantime -
I give you "Quigley Down Under"
This cowboy-film-set-in-Oz is worth watching, if only for a typically fine villainous performance by Alan Rickman.
Tom Selleck always plays Tom Selleck, but he does it really well.
Plus you get to learn Spanish!

Climb upon my knee, Sonny Boy
Though you're only 93 Sonny Boy

- that's what my dad used to sing. He did it just to annoy me :) (and - NO! he couldn't sing to save his life!)

That's a lovely song, Oskar. I know the tune but I haven't heard it by Al before, cheers!

Ok, this one is from the US version of Pennies from Heaven.

BE WARNED - this clip contains partial nudity and some saucy vintage lingerie!

A terrific thread, this one! Much needed at this m.m. time of year.

Room for some sillysweet stuff too, ey?

Everything looks better by candlelight.
Everything sounds more plausible on the shortwave.

Crikey, Christopher Walken can really dance! So much so that I actually took my eyes off the women for a second or two!

Jane, that dog's dancing is hilarious!

If you can spare 5 minutes, folks, start watching this clip at 5 minutes in.
The dialogue, the "dramatic" acting, and the RADA cockney eckcents are priceless.

I love those old Sherlock Holmes films. Is this the one with the 'oxton Creeper?

Having discovered this this year, it would be remiss of me not to share it here ...

Of course! Whatever takes yer fancy, Jane. There are no rules in Most Miserable Club...apart from bring booze and chocolates.

I've never seen any of the old Sherlock films, I'll have to remedy that.

Aah, David! Your recent discovery, absolutely brilliant. Thankyou for introducing me to this track!

Tbh, David, I don't remember, but I don't think it is. This is one of those flag-waving, morale-boosting wartime films - hence Holmes' "it's a free country" speech. This one just happens to be unintentional Comedy Gold.

Maybe..
Or this one (someone has uploaded it in HD, but changing the quality doesn't see to make much difference..)

No - this is!

(You can tell this is not a serious disagreement.)

PS 2000! Congratulations. Or do you feel you've wasted a large portion of your life? I don't.

That Mr Bowlly is a friend of the site, isn't he?

David, I almost posted that one! It was a hard choice between them.

I'm probably a bit dim, but I don't know what that means?? But as for wasting portions of my life, there's been much larger ones!

Good grief! I see David has nipped in ahead of me....

The very toon..
