Perhaps 2/3 poems a week limit on posting? Otherwise new posters may be tempted to honour us with their back catalogue:

Just a suggestion

Rosencrantz: What are you playing at? Guildenstern: Words. Words. They're all we have to go on.

I see. This would rather explain your lack of critting, Mike. Too busy pressing the "upload" button at Poem Hunter. The game is up, Moriarty.

Actually, I've been "honoring" the group with my back catalogue, but only because I decided I wanted to start publishing after a lifetime of putting my poems in a trunk. Is that something I shouldn't be doing? My back catalogue isn't terribly extensive.

I have no objection to new members posting older poems that we haven't seen before. The rewriting of poems is never done, and fresh opinions can always nudge you in a new, fruitful direction. Got to get that posting / critting proportion right, though. Can't just swamp us with them.

I have no objection to long-time members posting older poems that we have seen before, either, if they think that would be helpful. Within limits, of course.

Seconded. We don't count religiously; it's just a matter of whether people seem to be engaging with the whole process, or taking advantage.

You may not care for my formalist and somewhat dated writing style, but I think you'll agree that I'm engaged.

I'm not one of those people who can hear a bird chirping from a bush and then write a poem about it. All my poems are about deep, personal issues, so I haven't written a huge number of them.

I'm presented with a problem, however. There is such a distaste for my style of writing here that I don't think the good elements of my poems get much recognition. I have a few poems that I would like to post, but I'm hesitating because I know no one will like the style.

People here crit to the best of their ability, and generally are very encouraging. No board is going to suit everyone; there's less of a formalist tradition at present in the UK (where most, but by no means all, of our members are based). We're happy with metrical, though; David is nearly always metrical, for e.g. I believe we can recognise good craft, but of course personal tastes differ. It's up to you whether you want to post here or find somewhere more in tune with what you do. Subjective or not, people will say what they think. It's a matter of whether that's of any use to you.
