Having been exposed to a thing called "news" (what our American friends call "noose") for sixtysomething years, I've developed a strong preference for plain, comfortable uneventfulness.

This is one of my favourites from the Eastern front:

Everything looks better by candlelight.
Everything sounds more plausible on the shortwave.
