Thanks, Stuart, will look into that.

I don't know Manchester at all. Never been.
However, a workmate of mine has friends in Manchester and is visiting them shortly.
I've asked her to ask her pals if they could recommend a suitable venue.
I've told her what we need/ would like based on last years meet up.
I've also asked for recommendations of reasonable Hotel/ B & B close to venue.
Once I hear back from them I will check them out.

Thanks for the offer, Stuart, lol. Very hospitable of you.
Looks like I am coming
I'm thinking I should write a poem or two before I book my ticket, just to make sure I still can. Life has certainly gotten in the way this year.
My great grandfather, Charles Kemp, was from Manchester. Maybe I'll find cousins.
Anticipating flying in on Friday and meeting you all at a wonderful pub.
Now, to write that poem.....

Any updates to the below? Suzanne are you in? Would anyone care to volunteer to arrange a back-room in a pub for us on the Saturday night?
I'll be booking an airbnb now that the pound has collapsed. I'm open to sharing (a property, not a room) if anyone else is so inclined. PM me if so. Larger places tend to be cheaper per person.

The weekend of 15th October in Manchester.
So far I believe we have:
Ian
Ros
David
Kieran
Peter
Pauline
Stuart
Vincent?
Jackie?
Anyone else? Everyone is very welcome. It was lovely meeting people last year - everyone was exactly like and completely unlike how you imagine them to be.

Ros and I have a week's 'staycation' coming up the first week in august, we'll get over there and see if we can arrange something...

Excellent, a personal recce is what's required.

So... If we are to book a room, we need a clear idea of the numbers. There's a list above, with (I think) seven definites and two maybes... Are the definites still definite? Are the maybes any more probable? Is there anybody else?

So we're down to 6? I begin to wonder whether that is enough to make it work? Anybody else definitely still coming?

I am, and I'm not bothered how few or many show up (sorry not to see Suzanne though). Maybe if we get less than six though we shouldn't bother with a room but just find a nook somewhere.

Not sure we could justify hiring a room for less than 8 or 10, but we could meet on the Sat (poss go round MOSI together, or some art gallery or something?) and then adjourn for a meal together, possibly fit some readings in at some point.

OK, so if all we need is a rendezvous (say MOSI), a way of identifying each other (say a lapel pin in the shape of Emily Dickinson), and a restaurant, then that shouldn't be too hard...

I might be coming, but I'm not definite. I shan't be walking around an art gallery, though. I'd sooner watch paint dry. What's MOSI?

If we pick a modern art gallery, you probably can watch the paint dry.ray miller wrote:I might be coming, but I'm not definite. I shan't be walking around an art gallery, though. I'd sooner watch paint dry. What's MOSI?
MOSI is the museum of science and industry - they have a big working cotton loom (if I recall correctly) plus lots of industrial stuff. Is that more to your taste?

I fear you're entirely serious. Tell you what, if I come, I'll just meet you in the restaurant or wherever in the evening.Ros wrote:If we pick a modern art gallery, you probably can watch the paint dry.ray miller wrote:I might be coming, but I'm not definite. OK, you cheery lot, what would be your activity of choice in a city centre? I'm assuming you'd rather not be in a city centre, but we're a bit stuck with that.
