I was browsing some poetry magazine sites, and one listed three words that, it said, should always be avoided. So I searched our own fair site for them, and we really didn't come out too badly, considering how many posts there have been ...

shards - 33 hits

abysses - no hits at all (although I got 25 for abyss itself)

iridescence - just 2

So, not bad at all, I think.

What about echo? I once read somewhere that it was one of the most overused of cliches.
