I'll write a poem especially for the first person to name all five of these dilettantes.

Classic photograph kj. I won't spoil it for others. Pity Larkin wasn't at the same F&F party. Ted looks like he's sucking a lemon, doesn't he?

I see that one of them looks like John Cleese

I know 'em all apart from the chap on the right (and I think I can guess who it is), but he looks like David Gower's gay dad.

Not a very beautiful bunch, though, are they?
Is it possible to be beautiful and poetic? <ponders>

Oh go on then.
Louis Macneice, Teddy Boy, Eliot, Auden and Spender, who I am sure would be thrilled to know his sexuality is still the subject of debate!
Oh to have been at that party!
Can I have my poem now please k-j?

B edizened by Berryman, Brian
R eclined on his futon and sighed:
"I feel like a ferryman plying
A gainst an unturnable tide."
N ausea then overcame him
E ngirdled his soul like a sash:
D ropping Dream Songs - who can blame him? -
W earily, with a faint crash,
A nd fumbling for the remote, he
R esumed his Fellini-a-thon.
D irectly he felt fresh and floaty,
S prightly, and not quite as wan.

Glad you liked it Brian, I was in a rush to leave the office or I'd have made a better fist of the last 8 lines. Nothing against Berryman, I've never read him. Just picked him cause he starts with a 'b' and is a dactyl. Waltzing along!
Good idea for a comp. Poems on pictures of poets, I'm up for that. Shall we just do it informally on the Exp board, post when ready? Or we could do it in the comp forum, that needs clearing out though.

Thanks for the photo k-j. My score was 3 out of 5. I should've recognised MacNiece but didn't, and (amazingly) i've never seen a pic of stephen spender. I hope you don't mind that I read your poem anyway (good stuff), even though I didn't qualify.
