How many poets does it take to change a light bulb?

Here's an interesting form to use as a prompt, I got it from http://applehousepoetryworkshop.blogspot.com/
You have to write a 6 line poem and the lines need 1,1,2,3,5,8 syllables respectively - any takers?

Sounds fun. I'll give it a go.

so life-like

Only the brush will move him now.

Sharra, this was too much math for me! I did it but hardly think its a pretty poem. Ah well!

One
plant,
growing,
three petals,
form spirals curving,
bear a fibonacci number.

Or

One
pout,
growing,
two soft lips
form a kiss, curving,
plants a blushing cheek deserving.

Finally managed to do some :)

In
the
Tardis,
Doctor Who
roams the galaxy
fights evil daleks across time.

One
by
one, she
plucks petals
counting as they fall,
crushed beneath his feet as he leaves.

They
kiss
beneath
thunder clouds,
feeling lightning lit
raindrops crash onto sunburnt skin.

If
we
add the
sum of the
two numbers before
this one, we get the next - voilà!

I
think
that you
think that I
can be difficult.
But I'm so low maintenance!

David - that has to be the definition of form dictating content :)

Have we started a thread here like haiku and bits?
If we did, I like it!

I
try
but fail,
and failing
find the strength to try.
I will escape the hook of forms.

These are addictive :)

I
fall.
Undone
shoelaces
tripping me, sending
me flying face down in the mud.

New
red
wellies
splashing in
puddles. Leaping high,
landing hard, I create tsunami.

New
shoes
creaking
as I creep
into his bedroom.
I hope his parents don’t hear me.

Soft,
pink,
twirling
ballet shoes
pirouette, whirling
faster and faster around me.
It is at the edge of the
petal that love waits

I have read some of these. To me they're not poems, they're word games. I just cannot see the point in writing in this way. Why use these strait jackets ? Why self-impose such draconian restraints ? I just don't understand it. But then, that's me.

I agree with you that (most of) these are just word games. But word games are fun, no? And straitjackets can produce good poetry - vide the syllable-counting forms of Dylan Thomas, Gavin Ewart, or others.

These fibonacci ditties are especially unnatural of course, but occasionally one of them hits you unexpectedly in the solar plexus - ooph - and makes use of the form in a good epigram - as I think R. Broath's does, above.

You got it in one
they're word games
so they're for fun!! And to see just how far such an artifical form can be stretched.
And if I'm honest
Why use these strait jackets ? Why self-impose such draconian restraints ? I just don't understand it. But then, that's me.
is how I feel when I try and write in Iambic pentameter
