NaPoWriMo prompt for April 27th: Taste Poem - Many poems explore the sight or sound or feel of things, and Proust famously wrote about the memories evoked by smell, but today I’d like to challenge you to write a poem that explores your sense of taste! This could be a poem about food, or wine, or even the oddly metallic sensation of a snowflake on your tongue. http://www.napowrimo.net/.

Alternative Prompts:

1. Darkness: Write a poem or journal entry inspired by what you can’t see.

2. Alarm Clock: Write about waking up.

3. Handle With Care: Write about a very fragile or delicate object.

Tilt the Pan before Folding

Crack three eggs and whisk them well
with a pinch of salt and pepper, sans milk.

Rip the finest gruyere with a flourish,
or tear slices of emmental into strips. Chill out.

Heat a non-stick pan until it’s very hot
then add a spot of olive oil. No virgins allowed.

Drop a tiny drop into the pan and wait for a sizzle.
If it dances and pops add the rest.

Shake and stir with a fork and go berserk;
make wet scrambled eggs. Remove from heat.

Lavish cheese on top, right angle to the handle.
This amulet wants to be folded neatly. Relax.

Return to heat, DON’t let it set. SACRILEDGE!!
Fold onto a lukewarm plate, then wait. Not long.

Cut along the fattest point and watch the goo spill out;
don’t shout. Taste the double cream inside. Surprised?

JJ- Gotta try that recipe. I began to drool while I was reading the poem. It's pretty strong evidence that you got the "taste" poem down pat. :D

Prompt: Taste Poem

Born Into It

I crave the blood, so sweet.

Instinctual images flash with
me running through the savannah
on all fours after a doe with a
broken leg. My canines sink
into it’s still quivering flesh.

A little salt and pepper goes
a long way for most food
but meat, marbled right,
doesn’t need an assist.

It’s in our blood to seek out prey,
not in our brains, they just get
in the way. Survival mode
is the hidden key when I
gnaw a juicy bit, off the bone,
of a once living thing.

Vegetarians & vegans unite!

Cool instinctive poem and a more than interesting switch.

JJ

PS

Keep the omelette just on the point of runny and you've got an A1 professional dish.

Good one, robodkin. One of my favourites of your many strong poems for NaPoWriMo. And I think I understood almost all of this one.
