Debris

My brother sent me “Debris.” It’s a song
that Ronnie Lane sings, and it tells the tale
of how Rod Stewart left The Faces. And
Rod’s here on backing vocal. The guitar
of Ron Wood leads us in – it’s very early
Seventies – then Ronnie says I left
you on the debris at the Sunday morning
market
. Which is what Rod did – he was
looking for a bargain. Ronnie Lane
said he wrote this about his dad. Do not
believe him. Here is Rod behind the lead:

I had to learn, he chimes in, for myself.
And Rod has got the money. What would you
have done, asks Ronnie Lane of him, without
me hanging around
? Now, fate may lift our star
past those who made us famous. Then, the web
that held us tears – and we forgive, or we
cannot. The song is fading out. Ron Wood
plays his guitar, as Ronnie Lane and Rod
step from that mic to go their separate ways.

Yes, I suspect there are a few that lost out in the music business. Pete Best comes to mind. I found this more commentary than your usual John. I wondered if you could add some personal parallels, but perhaps this particular narrative is more about showbusiness ambition?

Yes, Pete Best. Or that Stone they made a session player, IIRC, because he didn’t fit their image.

More commentary and more quotes. This may need tweaking. But I like the premise!

Cheers,

Hi John,

Just a quick comment for now, as W.-B. and I are horrendously busy with work at the moment. I enjoyed this musem too; it's a different approach, but it's still enjoyable. I like the 'behind the music' feel to it, really rather intriguing! I like Phil's suggestions too, though :)

Best wishes,
Fliss

Glad you enjoyed this one, Fliss and Coo! It’s a great song. I need to look over my poem, but too busy now.

Cheers,
John

Hooray! Thank-coos, John. It seems we're Busy Club at the moment, but I really want to write a few things this weekend :)
