Glass Partitions

All lifelong between me and love there was this glass partition
It was a camera, closed circuit
A computer, the screen
The spectacles we hid behind
Or those small windows at home

And inside of myself, an impenetrable wall.

We went to places then hid behind cameras
Oh all the journeys we took! Just sat in tiny boxes on wheels
Peering out, between snaps of anger
Pointing and saying, Will you just look at those cows.

We invited people in then clammed right up
Afraid in case they got to know us thinking God Almighty that’s a risk!

Even the Alps in the air were muffled
The clouds, the sunsets driving through France
And all the time the heart of things was carried in solutions of lime
Load up, import, mix then edit.

Sometimes behind the unbreakable glass
I could have wept with frustration
It kept me apart you see
All lifelong
From love.

Brahms, I hope this isn't drawn too much from your own life - that would be unbearably sad. I like how you've used the unbreakable glass partition and it's different forms.

'Even the Alps in the air were muffled' threw me a bit, but I'm going to re-read it. Thanks for posting - enjoyed.

I like the images here, the Alps, the sunsets travelling to France etc. There maybe ways to tighten up the piece but it's okay with me.

Great read.
