A History of the Saints
His eyes were replaced by intricate machines.
His fingers were replaced by a memory of you.
His hair, which had been blond, became the number seven.
His earrings became dolphins
following a slow ship.
His forearms were shooting stars.
He kicked his foot which became
the continent of Asia.
His left knee was the breathing of an infant,
while the right was a history of the saints.
His neck was a white wall in Portugal.
His hands were songbirds,
all sound and no existence.
His stomach was a small fish.
His lungs turned into sycamore trees
on a northern shore.
His intestines disappeared into the forest.
His heart was a sun seen through the branches
at the approach of evening,
his mouth an abandoned well –
older than I care to remember –
and his back became a meadow full of light.
A History of the Saints
Yes, it is surreal. Members of the Coo-mmunity enjoyed it, at first wondering whether it might be a parody of a Lives of Saints, perhaps. We rejected this possibility on coming across 'a history of the saints' at the end of S2.
Every verse has its highlights, but we're particularly taken by the sycamore trees, perhaps due to our recent exploration of photosynthesis. Overall the poem is colourful and imaginative, something of a treasury (^v^)

Greetings, Fliss and Coo!
I am very glad you enjoyed it! The sycamore trees were one of my own fave bits, so i am glad that spoke to you.
Yes, I'm not sure how this ended up being a history of the saints. Weird things happen in poetry!
Cheerie,
John

Greetings, John!
We enjoyed it very much indeedy. Mention of sycamores always takes us to the magnificent trees in the grounds of Sudeley Castle, The context in the poem is unusual and certainly spoke to the Coo-mmunity here (*v*)
Weird things certainly occur in Poetry World (*&*)
