[Apologies Ralph for chord sequence.]

Dirt beneath your finger nails
Ingrained dust in lines of age
Flecks of straw in strands of grey
I listened to you sway

Bulging eyes on strangled face
Limply gazing into space
Worn out sole and hanging lace
Fingers brown and stained

CHORUS
[tab][/tab]Here I am
[tab][/tab]Sitting at your feet
[tab][/tab]Waiting for your voice
[tab][/tab]To make my spirits leap
[tab][/tab]Sitting at your feet
[tab][/tab]Oh wake me from this dream

Your head is tilted to one side
Lips that wear a crooked smile
Barn door closing us inside
It’s like my world just died

The sun is setting in the west
The growing darkness calls for rest
The rope that tightened round your neck
Has tightened round my chest

CHORUS
[tab][/tab]Here I am
[tab][/tab]Sitting at your feet
[tab][/tab]Waiting for your voice
[tab][/tab]To make my spirits leap
[tab][/tab]Sitting at your feet
[tab][/tab]Oh wake me from this dream

REPEAT CHORUS (sort of...)
[tab][/tab]Here I am
[tab][/tab]Sitting at your feet
[tab][/tab]Waiting for your voice
[tab][/tab]To make my spirits leap
[tab][/tab]Sitting at your feet
[tab][/tab]Sitting at your feet
[tab][/tab]Sitting at your feet
[tab][/tab]Sitting at your feet

i think if you put a space after the </indent> it doesn't make the &nbs, or maybe it only does that on my browser, i don't know. will read it and respond more intelligently about your song in a second.

i like the chords for the verses, but something about the second chord in the chorus just doesn't work for me . . . maybe something like a 7b9 chord, or a lydian/b5, diminished chord even. i don't know about the major, but it might be good to try a couple other majors in there.

i'm also trying to figure out whose feet your sitting at: obviously someone important to you, but whether it's suicide or an execution is hard to say. what makes me think it's an execution is how dirty the person is--which could go either way i suppose, but it makes a difference in why the narrator's "world just died:" as a suicide, it's fairly obvious, but an execution . . . is the man a murderer? an innocent unjustly hanged? a political dissident? i would say that since it happens in a barn makes me lean toward suicide, which is certainly the intention, i just don't understand the dirt.

good song though

Gidday DJIH

Perhaps the indent thing is to do with your browser. It works fine on mine, but if it is going to misbehave, then perhaps I should go back to using headings. Sorry about that.

Your interpretation was pretty good. I meet with friends once a month to discuss songwriting, and we always give ourselves a brief for the next month. Last month it was "FARMERS". This song is my response. At the moment we are having a terrible drought and many farmers aren't coping. This is one such case from his dog's perspective.

A bit of a departure for me as it is a simple portrait rather than a cliched story (my usual tack). I was impressed by your deductions.

I will play further with the music side of things as I am concerned that it is too Ralph McTell in the verse and maybe too Crowded House in the chorus.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The indent didn't work on Firefox as I've just discovered. You can use the tab button which should work on both Firefox and IE.
[tab]It can be used more than once[/tab]
[tab][/tab][tab]for multiple tabs.[/tab]

Thanks Nicola

Have inserted tabs so if anyone gets the codes and not the indents, let Nicola know about it. Bothe tabs and indents work with my browser.

Lovely song Koz. This is one of my favorites you've done. I offer no suggestions other than to keep adding "simple portrait" songs to your repertoire.
