Invitation for a Voyage
Charles Baudelaire
My child, my sister: share
My dream of going there
On a soft voyage for a life anew,
To love and care not why
To love and live and die
Together in that land that looks like you.
There, soaking suns that rise
Through cloud-confounded skies
Will move my spirit with the mystery
Of witchery that lies
In treasonable eyes
That glimmer through your tears to look at me.
All things there are grace and measure,
Luxuries and peace and pleasure.
There, furniture that wears
The burnish of the years
Would be the decoration of our chamber,
Flowers that seldom bloom
Suffusing their perfume
With all the fragrant vagary of amber,
The ceilings richly wrought,
The mirrors deep as thought,
And every wall with Eastern splendors hung,
Everything would console
Your solitary soul
In secret in its sweet and native tongue
All things there are grace and measure,
Luxuries and peace and pleasure.
See how these vessels sweep
Toward those canals to sleep
And dream there in one place of roaming forth.
Simply to answer some
Small wish of yours, they come
Hither from all the regions of this earth.
Those suns now going down
Are clothing all the town,
The fields, the vessels, the canals tonight
In hyacinth and gold
As things of this world fold
Themselves to slumber in a warm low light.
All things there are grace and measure,
Luxuries and peace and pleasure.

Invitation au Voyage
Mon enfant, ma soeur,
Songe à la douceur,
D'aller là-bas, vivre ensemble!
Décoreraient notre chambre;
Dont l'humeur est vagabonde;
C'est pour assouvir
Ton moindre désir
Qu'ils viennent du bout du monde.
Les soleils couchants
Revêtent les champs
Les canaux, la ville entière
D'hyacinthe et d'or;

This reads smoothly to me, it also rhymes. I'm not so sure about the line
To love and care not why
with "not why" at the end. Is it in the original or is it just for the rhyme?
Thanks for the read.

Aim, then, to be aimless.
