I've written something inspired by the rainy day photo, but taken liberties with the story as I couldn't remember the exact details of the photo at the time. Not sure it fits the competition rules very well, but will post here anyway
og
softness
The softness kept us company
throughout the dull day;
slicking the pavements,
splashing the kerbstones.
We walked in waterproof anonymity,
hidden by hoods,
evading even the tourist paparazzi.
Loud colours kept contact
as we swam the spawning stream
of retail therapists.
I bought an ice cream,
a ridiculous concession to the season,
and didn’t lose a single, melted drop.
We slept on the train home –
no sense in straining
through moist, murky windows –
and returned
to our own, familiar softness;
comfy chairs and cocoa.
