Emergence (Sunrise)

This is a greyscale oil on canvas, 50 x 40 cms. The horizon is actually straight but the painting is a bit to one side, hence the distortion. I used an "Artist's Grey" for the entire painting, with hints of Paynes Grey and titanium white. This is basically the final version, one that was also completed in colour and charcoal. (two separate works btw)

Many thanks to those who suggested a greyscale version. See what you think.

Interesting juxtaposition of dynamic sky and quiet sea. The gulls add a note - a joy illuminated by light (that's my take )

Interesting juxtaposition of dynamic sky and quiet sea. ...The sky was the inspiration for this piece, especially when set against that tranquil sea. I nearly called this one "Primordial", because it felt like a beginning, or something like that. The original "Emergence" was meant to point to the earliest creatures emerging from the sea, such as horseshoe crabs. In the event I shelved the idea.

The gulls add a note - a joy illuminated by light (that's my take ) ...That's a great take and one that I shall borrow.
