Yikesy! I like this, MacPhil. That's a very dramatic sky, especially for the reddish notes, which make me think of blood smears. The meteor itself is excellent, I think, just pure fire and fear. The houses look like they're staring at it and the trees appear to be cowering. I wonder where it's going to land...

Best wishes,
Fliss

Painted this yesterday Fliss. The photograph looks scary...I can see a face in the meteor😮! No wonder the trees are 'cowering' 🤣

It sounds terrifying, MacPhil. I'm reminded of the film Melancholia, in which a planet is on course to collide with Earth. I watched that with Bro A and although he was quite cynical about it all, we were both a bit freaked out by it! Cowering slightly

PS: I'm on my way to 'Skew-whiff'! I've been a bit overwhelmed with work today, but things ought to ease tomorrow :)

Fliss, my memory is not the best, but didn't you have a meteorite experience yourself or am I confusing you with someone else?

Morning, MacPhil!

Yikesy, I'm just finishing work at 01:30am  (shaky laughter)

You're right about the meteorite experience; at least, it happened to three guinea pigs I know and one of them, Moppet, wrote a poem about it! You can read Moppet's poem here, https://winchcombemeteorite.org/pigs/ :D

I've officially run out of brain for the day, but I'm determined to return and comment on poems soon!

Bw,
Fliss

I guess this is folk art, right? i notice there isn't much movement in the comet, no tail or blur indicating its direction. I also notice that there is atmospheric disturbance above the house, but not around the house. So for me, the painting works as interesting (and ominous) folk art, but doesn't work as a realistic portrayal. However, I do like it.

Thanks Caleb. The photograph of the painting has produced some interesting distortions. I may revisit this one.

cheers

Hi Phil,

I like this picture a lot. I agree with Fliss about the trees looking as if they're cowering and the house staring at the descending meteor (which will very soon become a meteorite). I like the way the sky looks tempestuous. The meteor looks almost like it's floating rather than rushing toward the ground. The yellowish-green field and the paths meandering across them are also interesting.

I can't help wondering where it will land. On the house? Near the house? I picture those poor dinos 66 million years ago. There were also lots of volcanoes erupting around that time, too. So the dinos were probably on their way out anyway, especially because the climate was changing.

Thank you very much Martin. A meteor loitering for destructiveness! Yes, the dino was doomed. The dictionary says so😀

Cheers

Phil

As everyone knows, the meteor that destroyed the dinos occurred in 1786. It hit a manor house in Britain, not a peninsula in America as so many people mistakenly believe. Fortunately, the mammals were able to protect themselves with air-conditioning and survived, quickly overtaking the earth as they slept with each other's wives and multiplied like rabbits.

Are my facts right?
