Apologies Brian. I couldn't resist posting this one. It's an oldie and someone said it reminded them of Laurie Anderson Oh Superman

Denis,

I didn't get minimalist from this, just repetion and I didn't feel as is it works. The words seem disconnected and I just felt this could be easily dismissed? Not sure what your intent is but for me anyway - meaningless. Maybe others might have a different view.

Nope. Sorry DJ, my view is essentially the same. To be honest, I think it's just silly.
Still, there are plenty of others who might disagree with us.

Yes! Me!

It's just the Philip Glass thing (which I now understand - I think). That's what transforms it. I started out hating it, but ended up loving it. Glass Glass Glass Glass Glass Glass Glass Glass. There's something loopily (good one!) wonderful about that.

Cheers (showing great self-control there, you'll notice)

Yes, but David, you say wonderfully positive things about everything. I don't think I've ever seen a poem you haven't liked (or admitted to it, anyway). Not a criticism, but downright envy. I just which I had your positive, glass-nine-tenths-full, outlook.

Sorry, but references to glass or no, this isn't a poem to me, let alone a good one.

Cheers

Peter, Clare, c'mon lighten up guys. It's clearly just a bit of fun.
By no means top drawer poetry but I am pretty sure Denis knows that. It made me smile.

I think you're probably right, Brian.

Sorry David, no doubt I missed the irony in your remarks.

What's the world coming to, when B is the voice of calm reason and conciliation? How things change1

Likewise, Brian. Very strange.

Perhaps we're both just quarks in the fabric of existence. David too. He'd be the Up quark. You and I, Strange.

And my wife thinks I'm such a miserable so-and-so. I am. So how do I retain my (apparently) sunny on-line disposition? By not commenting at all (usually), if I don't like something. If there's something to be said about how a half-decent poem could possibly be improved, I will say it.

And, honestly, I'm not being ironic. I do like this one of Denis's. It appeals to my frivolous side. A lot. Brian's right, he isn't making any grandiose claims about it. He's just said: how's this, for a bit of fun? For a bit of fun, I think it's pretty good.

I'm sure if I google, I'll find one of my favourite Latin tags (speaking as a non-Latin speaker); and here it is: dulce est desipere in loco. It is sweet to play the fool upon occasion.

I might use that as my tag in future.

Cheers

I'm not sure I'm a Quark, but one of my father's best friends was a Quirk.

A quirk is an odd habit. Most dictionaries list this word's origin as "unknown". However, as the surname arises from the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea, and because the island is somewhat notorious for idiosyncratic behaviors, we may find the word's origins there. Manx surnames have fluctuated in their pronunciations and, hence, their spellings. Prior to the twentieth century, the most common variant for this "phylum" was Quark.

You know, I think there's a poem in there somewhere.

Yes. Socratic irony. As I said, I missed it. Sorry.

Though I'm not sure how not commenting when we don't like something is helpful to the contributor. Doesn't that defeat the very point of the forum?

And I've changed my mind - I think you're probably the Charm quark. (You are a quirk quark).
Cheers

It's not meant as a serious piece. But my dog really doesn't like Philip Glass. I'm not sure how serious that is.

He loves Bach. Trouble is he sings along with the Cantatas.

Dennis Joe,
I am all for fun. Now, how about making us an Mp3 and letting us hear it? I bet it would be great fun.
