BLACK AND WHITE


The girls I kissed in the heather of my youth long ago,
had in their hearts a longing for yes but their lips could only say no.
Yes and no, no and yes are opposites far apart
but when people use such words do they mean it in the heart.

No is black and white is yes
but where is room for grey.
And when we use those absolutes
do we mean what they convey.

No is a hole, a bottomless pit
a dark barren place where none should sit.
Yes is of lightness, daylight and hope,
an absolute too, but a winning stroke.
