Arriving home at two PM,
I was greeted with activity,
a strange phenomenon at my house,
the bragging bar and local hangout
of all the Westside heads
within two-suburb range.

Each Saturday was show and tell
with joints rolled fat,
hash and acid tabs
scattered about, while hippies
frayed their Levis,
played Pink Floyd,
and gasped the acrid smoke
from home-made bongs.

Today was different.
Two unmarked police cars
blocked the road, while
clean-cut men in dapper suits
strutted round our house
complaining that the housework
was a little shabby, and
why don’t we just put our stashes
nicely on top of neatly folded clothes
and hold our hands out for the cuffs.

In our munched-out kitchen
Andy asked me if I’d eaten yet.
How thoughtful! All this fuss
and he was worried that I’d starve.
I said I hadn’t, so he thrust a cup into my hand.
“Mushroom soup – freshly made – enjoy!”
He placed the lid back on to let it simmer,
just in case I wanted more, or
others came to share.

The drug squad left
somewhat disappointed at the lack of busts
and I began to laugh.
I’d never noticed how the sound
emerged from speakers until now –
all rainbow-coloured, random-curved.

My mate, Stew arrived and had some soup.
We laughed so hard he pissed himself.
Andy followed with a mop.
“I do believe I feel so good.
No need to smoke today or drop a trip.”
“You have already,” Andy said.
“The mushroom soup was what I said -
mushroom soup.”
Seems obvious, now
the squad don’t think that we’d be fool enough
to do it right in front of them.

Then Andy’s dog walked through
all sliced up salami-like,
his arse trying to catch up
with his wayward head.
For a time there, Stewie
thought that he could fly,
and though I could have proved him wrong
I moved his mind to other things.

I don’t remember anymore
unless you count the morning
waking up with Stewie there beside me.
Yep! - the bed was wet
and I was late for work.
Cheers
Dave

hi
this is great, very funny, bizzare but mundane at the same time, reminds me of when i had magic mushrooms and was so sick the next day, which bizarrely did look like mushroom soup. never again.
