A Death in Life. A Birth in Existentialism

It was a case tailor-fit for the paparazzi—
a media monger frenzy or
maybe just a different
take on A day in the life.

A traffic jam in the Jersey
turnpike’s tunnel: It seems a truck
carrying habitrail for local
hamsters (as well as for other
less vilified vermin) tipped on
its end—or slipped its pin—
does it matter?

The thing jack-knifed (like a wishbone)
and the passage choked with
daily travailers, travellers, traversers and truly,
one transvestite. Though, no transsexuals or
tramps were counted among them.

You heard it here first: Ten commuters
have died of exposure to carbon monoxide
or MTBE or perhaps just of sheer
benignity in a human habitrail.

Yes indeed this certainly requires an "Interesting" comment.

Interesting. Like the music references. I've always wondered at the majesty of the "New Jersey turnpike"

Interesting, eh?

I always marveled at the irony of people dying in things of their own, shall we say, machination.

very clever piece of writing - loved the third verse, especially "Though, no transsexuals or tramps were counted among them." I'm not sure if it was supposed to be slightly humourous or not but I certainly enjoyed reading it - suppose taking ones own interpretation is the point anyway.

nice one

Sprightly, satirical and modern. The tone suits you. More please.

Loved the implied simile/metaphor/parallel thingy in the habitrails.

Yeah...

What would you call that?

Thanks for the comments, folks.

prolly...metaphor.

Because you didn't use words "like" or "as."
