I've decided to put this on (in abridged form) after reading Pregnancy by Bombadil just to show there are two sides to the coin.

NINA'S RAP

Good morning in there, how you doing little girl?
Hope you're sitting, swimming comfortably in your warm little world
Guess what?
Last week I saw a picture of you
I knew there and then I'd fallen in love with you
On the screen you were blue
And did you know that blue is the colour of the sea?
You moved your hand and an ocean of devotion washed over me
I was emotional
I shed a tear but it wasn't because I'm sad
I am just so full up with pride to know that I'll be your dad
I can hardly believe it but that is really who I am
Once a baby just like you I grew up to be a man
Lived my whole life to be your number one fan

You see I just can't wait to hold you
Tell you that you're my favourite little thing
Daddy wanted to write you a song but daddy cannot sing
So I am writing these words for the time when you are grown
Hope you read them and smile because this is your special poem

Hey, and your mummy, well she's a poet too
She paints pretty pictures with words and sometimes dances too
You are in her belly, her name is Shelley
and it's true she loves you just as much as I do
We'll be a crew that nothing and noone will come between
A King and Queen
With our beautiful princess
And your brother Lewis, a lion-hearted prince no less!
So sleep and rest baby girl and know you're blessed baby girl
Yours is the world and every little thing that's in it
Skies the limit
Believe in yourself and every race you run you'll win it

I can't wait to see your face
Not too long to go now
Its funny how you are growing so silently every day
And sitting, writing these words there is so much I want to say
**LOVE YOU IN EVERY WAY**
So though there may be times when inside you'll fell like crying
I'll be there to take you on a magic carpet ride and set your spirits flying

There is no denying
You and your mum are the best things in my life
I want to whisper you a secret
'One day we'll be man and wife'
We are going to be one big happy family
Brother Lewis and your mum
Baby girl you and me
Tons of fun
Twizee Wizees in the sea
I always knew this day would come
Brother Lewis and your mum
Baby girl you and me

You really are the best of me
The sum total of our parts
A work of art
A Heaven sent dart to my heart
Where do I begin, how do I even start to tell you just how special you are?
I want to build a space rocket and go and write it in the stars
Be your clown juggling Jupiter and Mars
Always be around to see you go far

So at this time while you are still in her tummy
Your mum and me are making plans
So that we can go and live in the country
We'll find a place that's safe
Where you can be all you want to be
Our green space where you can run fast and run free
Where you can learn about life, love and nature
Bouncy bouncy bunnies, fuzzy funny honey bees
Have adventures, swim in rivers, climb up trees
Just to think about it now gives me shivers down to my knees
...And late at night I ask the Lord to deliver you safely please

One day very soon I will take you gently in my hand
And together we will stand and look out
Over the wooded wonderland that we are going to create
Woo Hoo, its going to be so great
We will have hundreds of floppy, chocolate coloured dogs
And early in the morning I'll go to the woods to chop
Chocolate covered logs and bring them home in bundles
To build you a gingerbread wendy house
In the afternoon we'll pick sugarspun strawberries
To feed to your canyfloss mouse

My little baby I cannot wait to look you in the eye
Stand high upon a mountain and shout your name into the sky
We are going to fly, we're going to swing, going to soar
Touching down in dark jungles to hear the tigers roar
The up again, chasing eagles and airplanes
I promise to keep you safe and cosy
And sheltered from the rain
So reach down to pick a posey as we skim the plains of Spain...

My hand hurts now so I'm stopping for a bit.I will finish it off another time but you get the picture...One of a man filled with joy.I'm not expecting every prospective parent to feel this but at the end of the day there really isn't anything more amazing in the world is there?

PEAS

PS- Pls ignore fact that if a candyfloss mouse is eating sugarspun strawberries he is technically a cannibal.

My daughter is the best part of my life. She is 13 and loves writing poetry and sitting up with me at nights if i am writing when she visits, she emailed me when i was reading your poem. I loved reading your poem, it made me think of what times i have with my daughter and what times we will have when i next see her. I wish you all the best, thank you for your poem. I have poems for about my daughter and reading back reminds me of the magical life i have lived.

What a lovely poem. I'm a mother myself, to two girls. It's nice and different to hear a fathers thoughts of anticipation and dreams throughout the pregnancy.
It really is the best thing in the world, the poem could keep going forever. Each day they bring something new into our lives.
I hope all your dreams have or do come true.

This poem is really touching, excellently written in my opinion, it flows very easily and is so full of emotion, hope and positivity. The fact you that the child is still in-utero seems to add a feeling of tenderness and anticipation of what is to come between the father and the child. I especially like the first stanza, I thought this was a moving introduction.
I'm not quite sure what Twizee wizees in the sea are, and it seemed to go a little fluffy for me after that point. However, all in all, it was an excellent poem,Ii have to say that I'm quite jealous that I couldn't create anything approaching that.
Thankyou for sharing it.

Very sweet. I held a friend of mine's day old baby last night, so I'm feelin' ya on that baby-love thing. :) I'll have to post my baby poem since that seems to be a theme around here.
