I like everything I like about you, like
your feet
that you like orangutans
your hand in mine
my feet in yours
I like how you sing in your sleep
your sideways looks
your sideways jokes
I like you sideways
how your shoulders shake
how often you laugh
I like how you put on your socks
I like how long you take to think things through
how you feel your way in conversation
I like that you will say it
I like how tall you are
how tall I am with you
I like you curled up
the grey in your hair
your hair’s willpower
I like how lavender-like you are
I like behind your knees
I like how you let go
what I don’t know about you yet
what I’ll never know
Original

Yes, very good. An accumulating sense of fondness that ends up feeling like - well, love, I suppose.
I like how you sing in your sleep
yes, it must be love. No other condition could account for a liking like that.
Good stuff.

Reminds me of another poem.
And as with the other poem that I'm reminded of, you include a subtle kinda twisty ending:
"what I don’t know about you yet
what I’ll never know"
or
"To you
To all the ones who got away
Touché"
Good stuff, I may derive my own version!

hi Mic,
I didn't like this when I read the poem last week-end. And re-reading it is clicking - how shallow a reader am I?
Perhaps my initial hurdle was putting the visceral joy of Cumming's poem out of mind:

Thanks Richard - and no apologies needed.Richard wrote:This is nice, but list poems need to have quite a kick of surprise in them somewhere, and I'm not seeing that here I am afraid. Sorry Mic!
Nice that you remembered an old'n. & go on, do a 'like' poem like mine!camus wrote:Reminds me of another poem.

Thanks Mac. That ee cummings poem is lovely! (I'm an ee cummings fan, but haven't come across that one before)Macavity wrote:hi Mic,
