I went looking for clemency
in my sock drawer this morning,
a hole in one might permit me
to call in fashion hole-pawed—
a purportedly metro sort of thing
to do, but my shame is least
at 4 a.m.

Now, throwing cotton
to the wind, rayon before the dawn (don’t
get me started on the silkies).

Try as I may, I couldn’t find a flaw
in the fuckers. Frantically I rummaged
and raged. When my wife woke up
and sleepily said: “I finished mending
them last night, what are you so upset over?”

4 a.m. is the only thing that nags me as a reader. How is the 'a' and the 'm' to be read?

hehe. I really like it, it's clever and insightful. First two lines are two of the best lines i've read in a while, esp, the line break.

However, the use of the word "fuckers" over powers the whole piece. Using "French" in a poem is so difficult to do as it takes away meaning from the words around it, unless this was your intention? Not that i'm against swearing, I just think it sticks out rather than blends with the piece.

Thank you for the peom.

Quack,

This is a long-standing debate amongst us. Somewhere in the discussion section there is an explanation, or at least thorough debate. Suffice it for now to say I disagree with you and that "fuckers" was put into to keep continuous consonance.

Cheers,

Funny... I don't usually mind cursing in poetry...

But I agree that it seems out of place.

Otherwise a good read, one of your best in a while.

"my wife does darn my socks"

How quaint........

No, it just seemed strange in today's throw away society, fair play to you and your fair lady.
