angry tweet

It took me 24 years to realize how angry I am
and how much I want to write about it.

Strange how difficult it is to describe things we feel strongest about.

I wish I could put into words the disillusionment with my mother,
frustration with the article I saw on Facebook last night
about how refugees will never assimilate, vaccines are the real cause of global warming
and garlic cures breast cancer.

I’m angry with another bad Instagram artist selling his prints for hundreds
with my 9-5 which doesn’t pay overtime
and with being a subject of another psychological study on millennials.

I refuse to turn vegan, project positive vibes only, do yoga 3 times a week.
I don’t listen to Taylor Swift, avoid avocadoes and never take photos of books I read.

Sipping Pumpkin Spice in a Zara sweater, I double-check my followers.
Product of Polish messianism, American idealism, and British monarchism
I tweet about my anger at this gluten-free world.

That one raised a smile as did I tweet about my anger. I like to unplug...of course, less wired to anger that way :)

cheers

Yo LBS,

I'm struggling with this poem. I'm at odds to understand the difference between rant and genuine disillusionment?

The title and the opening lines offered such promise:
It took me 24 years to realize how angry I am
and how much I want to write about it.
Whoooahhh..powerful shit...

Then...not so much: Yoga, avocados and Zara - 21st C clichés - Nothing that grabbed me to think, FUCK YEAH!

That said, it's great to hear a new voice here, and you sound riled and ready!

Just remember the first rule of poetry - Show, don't tell.

Look forward to more of your stuff.

Cheers
Kris

Hey Chris,

I get your points. The poem was intended to be a sort of satire about how the author is seemingly angry with the world, but also simultaneously becomes a part of it.

The enumeration of different issues such as yoga, avocado, etc was supposed to mimic social media bombarding us with unsolicited advice and fake news wherever we look. And this was the point - enumerating cliches. So I guess I succeeded here.

That was my attempt at showing, not saying.

Hi lbs,

Sorry I'm a bit late to the poem. I got the satire when I read it earlier this week. I really like your tone of voice and I look forward to reading more from you.

'I wish I could put into words'... I'm sure you could :)

Best wishes,
Fliss

Understood, perhaps I missed the nuances? More often than not I post and reply when i'm drunk, simply because I find it hard to access the synapses required for poetry and the level of emotion required when of sober mind. What can you do?

Please keep posting, as I said, it's great to have a new voice around town.

Cheers
Kris
