I will miss the pungent garlic mayonnaise

served in little tubs on a table that had a wobble

in the warm chattering air, and silly little wooden chairs,

and the cutlery laid out on clean napkins, and how the waiter’s hand
trembled to pour the soup into the bowl that has become too heavy for it.

I’ll miss Maria who I watched grow up from a girl into a woman,

and her son wheeling in the endless tubs of blue water into the shade of the supermarket.

I’ll miss how the bats flickered through the palm trees at dusk.

I will miss the escalators and steps at night.

I will miss the Lawercian dozen cats lounging like stone lizards at noon.

I will miss the golden sunset hacked back
by the jagged teeth of high high rise flats

and the joggers at seven pumping their legs like fists into the sands of the beach.

But maybe this isn't what you wanted after all.

Counting the beats,
Counting the slow heart beats,
The bleeding to death of time in slow heart beats,
Wakeful they lie.

Hi Tony,

Yup, this is very enjoyable, i especially like the phrase "the water culvert." No suggestions really, this seems like an easygoing and vivid reminiscence. Perhaps Loss is a bit strong as a title for something so fleeting and local?

Cheers,
John

Googled Lawercian, but nothing came up? Liked wobble/chattering. The high rise flats as teeth was vivid.

I mean to say Lawrentian, as in DH lawrence, but as in the nature poetry, as a reference.

I know what I mean anyway :D

Love it, especially the last line. And remarkably, I I knew you meant Lawrencian. But what are these endless tubs of blue water?
I'm out of faith and in my cups
I contemplate such bitter stuff.

Glad you liked it Ray

The blue tubs of water are just 5l water bottles of water, in a Super-market setting....
yes, they matter to me, somehow.
