Marie Antoinette

If I was to become a puppet
Would you make a rod for my own back?
Or would you pull the strings tighter
And not cut me any slack?
I’m sick of being jerked around
By jerks and ham fisted clowns
Who will always put me down
Like the throwaway lines you chuck around
I’m tired of dancing a merry jig
When you don’t acknowledge my existence
I’d be fooling myself if I told myself
That I’d be paid off through sheer persistence.
Maybe the strands of string will strangle me
In a noose I’ll be goosed
Through your abandon and abuse
It’s doing for me and it’s doing me in
Confounding me to be confused
I’m sick of being your marionette
Tired of being a glorified puppet
When all I want is some love and attention
To be cut loose from these pieces of string
So I don’t end up like Marie Antoinette
Who found freedom by the guillotine.
Would you make a rod for my own back?
Or would you pull the strings tighter
And not cut me any slack?
I’m sick of being jerked around
By jerks and ham fisted clowns
Who will always put me down
Like the throwaway lines you chuck around
I’m tired of dancing a merry jig
When you don’t acknowledge my existence
I’d be fooling myself if I told myself
That I’d be paid off through sheer persistence.
Maybe the strands of string will strangle me
In a noose I’ll be goosed
Through your abandon and abuse
It’s doing for me and it’s doing me in
Confounding me to be confused
I’m sick of being your marionette
Tired of being a glorified puppet
When all I want is some love and attention
To be cut loose from these pieces of string
So I don’t end up like Marie Antoinette
Who found freedom by the guillotine.
