The Ekphrastic Review

Er, sorry; me again. But this is the last thing for September, so I'll be quiet for a while!

My poem at the Review is here, https://www.ekphrastic.net/ Anyone wishing to view will need to scroll down a bit, as the top item on the blog is now a sex contest, lol. But after that, there's my demure little sonnet titled 'Cathedral', inspired by a sculpture in the Forest of Dean and with a photo provided by my younger brother (UK).

Said younger brother is extraordinarily talented in my view, but he's also very modest. A few of his photos are here, https://flickr.com/photos/142904908@N08.

Best wishes,
Leaf

PS: I might enter the sex contest! And it's still reading month at TER, so quite a lot to do

Cheers, mac!

And thanks for that link; I wanted to send the poem to various family members yesterday, but I wasn't sure what they'd make of the contest, lol. Glad you agree with the sentiment, also that A's work gets a thumbs up! He goes on a lot of walks and bike rides around the Cotswolds, making the most of photo opportunities :)

Best wishes,
F.

Hi!

Amazing news: Lorette at TER emailed earlier today to let me know I'm a finalist in the Ekphrastic Sex Contest, for one of the poems I submitted. Three flash fiction pieces and nine poems have been shortlisted. The funny thing is, my poem is one I wrote very close to the deadline and it's free verse, but perhaps that makes sense, on some level. Anyway, thanks to everyone here who helped workshop a few of the earlier offerings, as I'm sure that led to my finding my focus. I'm really looking forward to reading the other finalists' work :)

Best wishes,
Fliss

Fab news Fliss. Totally intrigued. Great that your talents are being recognized in both the formal and informal mediums. I agree focus can come through writing in either medium and there can be a conversation between the two.

all the best

Cheers, MacPhil! I'm still quite surprised about this, while wondering whether I should try free verse more often. I like the idea of a conversation between formal and informal mediums :)

Just a little update to say my poem's up at TER now, alongside all the other entries that made it to the final, https://www.ekphrastic.net/ekphrastic-w ... -finalists

There's some amazing stuff there; I'm not going to win. But I'm pleased to have made it so far in the contest. Thanks, PAT :)

Actually great pocket poem Fliss. A combo of wit and resonance of disturbing realities.

Yay! Thanks, MacPhil. I wrote this one quite a long time ago. I have a big Word doc strewn with all the old stuff; I think of it as my salvage yard. I'm glad you liked the refrain and 'warrior roar', a bit of a highlight for me too! Thanks for your kind words :)

Ah, drinking again! Well, why not 🍷

Ta muchly, Phil!

I like TER. The submissions month is usually June, but it has been postponed to August this year, due to a big backlog of submissions
