This is very obvious of me, no doubt, but I heard it for the first time last night and I really like it.



Incidentally, whenever I go to youtube now I get directed to what must be the Japanese version. Is this happening to anybody else?

First time I heard it I presumed it was an old classic I'd not yet discovered.

The verdict is out on whether she can sustain the whole sixties vibe with any degree of plausibility, I tend to think not...

Still, quite nice.

Strike that, it was Mercy I thought was an old classic, but I do really like Warwick Avenue.

I think that everyone loved "Mercy", but they overplayed it and it got dull. It depends because the music industry is targeting a younger audience which isn't the wisest thing to do seeing as she's kind of a folk-ish singer. She has an unusual image for me, I liked her for a bit but then her style got a bit repetive.

I put this on the SmartBoard for a room full of Year 5 kids to sing along to yesterday. It made for quite a nice shared moment.

I didn't think much of the song when I first heard it but it's grown on me. Whether Duffy is still around doing this stuff to the same standard in five years time is debatable. I hope she sticks with it. She's got the kind of smokey voice that I love to listen to.

Her latest single is so overraught, I feel physically ill listening to it, still she can "Sing"

I guess it all depends on your perception of the word "Sing" conventional or not...

Leona can undoubtedly sing in an overwrought way, but she can't write songs. She is only one of many in a line of many mainly black "divas" who seem to be paid by the note- Whitney houston, Mariah Carey, Cristina Aguilera et al.It is quite rare to find someone who can compose truly affecting songs and sing them better than we could. Radiohead's Thom Yorke? Bruce Springsteen? Lennon? McCartney at his best.

Indeed, such as the latest Number1. The travesty that is Hallelujah covered by the latest Diva from X factor!

I'm just hoping that of the 500,000 people that purchased that track, a percentage of them seek out the original, and perhaps purchase Songs of Love and Hate or similar, that'll teach em...

Harking back a bit, Bob is obviously a blues singer. The normal rules do not apply. Have to say though, Kris, I wouldn't put Lay Lady Lay forward as a good example of anything. From the same album, I like Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You. And I Threw It All Away.
