Ikutaro Kakehashi, the founder of the electronic instrument company Roland, died on 01/04/17. He was co-creator of MIDI, and created the TB-303 bass synth and the TR-808/TR-909 drum machines.

If you don't know the significance of those radical instruments then I'll just say that much of the best music of the past 36 years would not have been made without them.

I've never got my hands on the actual instruments, but spent many hours using the ReBirth RB-338 software, which emulates them on computers. Such sublime logic.

Thank you Master Kakehashi for the joy of exploring those awesome and infinite soundscapes.

Antcliff, nice link. Their mode was totally depeche. The 1989 documentary movie 'Depeche Mode: 101' is worth watching.
