I always think I should like Roy Harper more than I actually do. In fairness, I don't think I've really given him a fair crack of the whip though. I'll have to listen to some more of his I think.

Ah well, if we're talking in fairness, I would have to admit that I don't know an awful lot of his other songs either. But, if any of them are better then this, I'll be very surprised. And mightily impressed.

I can't get this link to work, neither could I post a workable link in the Publications section. Has technology advanced beyond my grasp yet again or is this a common problem? So, I don't know what Roy Harper song you've posted, David, but my favourite is When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease.
Back in the early 70s my then girlfriend and I went to see Roy Harper at Birmingham Town Hall. He came out with this interminable tale about catching a life-threatening illness from a sheep. I'm afraid I found it more funny than tragic and my girlfriend never spoke to me again.

The song David posted is the Cricketer song then, is it?

It is. I loves it, I do.
But how did you do that, Mac? There used to be a working YouTube app (or whatever) here, but it don't work no more.

A nudge from Geoff to change "https" to "http" and use the youtube option (this only works for youtube postings)

Great song,David!
I'm not that well acquainted with Mr Harper, tbh - so I can just simply say it's the best one of his that I've heard.
When Shane Warne and Glen McGrath retired I expect you could almost hear the sighs of relief from opposing batsmen.
It will be the same for Jimmy Anderson when he calls it a day..
What's the equivalent of " finally leaves the crease" for a bowler,I wonder? "-puts his cap back on for the last time"?
