The Story of My Life (in the UK) by Michael Holliday. Never heard of it.

Get A Job by the Silhouettes in the US. That's much better.

Hmm. Do you think the gods of the calendar were trying to tell me something?

Are you lonesome tonight?(UK) by yer tassled man from Tupelo.

Calcutta by the attractively named Mr. Lawrence Welk in the U.S.

I suppose a combination of the two might produce a half decent whelk vindaloo for one.

Mr Lawrence Welk! He was the king/bandleader of Polka. At the end of the show all these bubbles would fill the stage. When I was a kid he was hugely popular (for you guys too?)--the old ladies loved him.

I forgot to add the following to mine:

The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore - The Walker Brothers (UK)

The Righteous Brothers, the Walker Brothers...I was hoping for another "Brothers" but got Nancy instead.

These Boots Are Made For Walkin' - Nancy Sinatra (Australia)

We had our own version of the Righteous Brothers over here in the 1960s. They were a charming double act called The Kray Twins. They weren't much cop but everyone felt obliged to buy their records.

As for Mr Welk and Polka music, it's not something that has ever caught on over here but the current political trend towards European enlargement might just lead to it becoming the next big thing.

I'll keep you posted. I have my bubbles at the ready!

My Ding-A-Ling - Chuck Berry

Fooking hell I was born earlier than I thought.

I was thinking maybe an early Bowie Number, or at the least Alone Again (Naturally), by Gilbert O'Sullivan.

"Way Down" by Elvis for me (UK). Not familiar with it. And "Best of my Love" by The Emotions in the US. Don't think I know that one either.

Best of My Love--great song!

Soul Train was a hit show in the seventies in the U.S which featured a group every week. I use to dance to it in my living room (I was young!).
It was all very hip. Not my dancing..the show.

Kim

Song on the Day of Your Birth, my arse - where's 1949 then? When I was born (?) the number one US hit was Frankie Lane with That Lucky Old Sun. I think ration books were still the number one concern in the UK back then.

Hey Barrie

The US charts didn't kick in until Oct 1952

Mine was Unforgettable - (Nat 'King' Cole) - my birth was too according some observers.

That was the UK chart - I'm two old for the other two. The sad thing is, I can remember listening to good ol' Nancy singing about her boots. You must be so young, Kim.
Cheers
