Almost certainly Whitesnake (Leeds City Hall)

Followed close behind by Uriah Heap, Hawkwind or the Scorpions (Ipswich Gaumont)

Anyone seen Cradle of Filth?

I did go and see Tpau at a local venue, the winter gardens Cleethorpes.

Ahhhhhhhh China in your hands.

An embarrassing moment was Lou Reed at the Hammersmith Odeon. It was his Magic and Loss tour. A few guys at the front were literally talking amongst themselves, so Mr Reed stopped the gig, and asked them to leave if they couldn't be fucking bothered to listen, lol, good old Lou.

Also Bob Dylan, again at Hammersmith, couldn't understand a word he sang. Hero worship ended for a couple of weeks after that.

i saw lou reed on his i wanna be edgar allan poe tour, i still cant decide if it was good or bad.

errrrm i have seen cradle of filth, once, never again.

id say the most embarressing gig would be one of my friends bands at a local venue, he got really drunk before the gig, forgot all the lines to his songs, pretended to be sid vicious and then his trousers fell down. tragic.

Well, where to start! (And Cameron was at most of these too)!

Saw Iron Maiden in about '82. They were terrible, and it made me realise what a load of old bollocks most of the new metal was at the time. Masters like UFO still sound good today, but I'd run out of the room if any of that Saxon, Maiden etc. nonsense was put on.

Similar theme, Witchfynde! Very sad actually. The band used to light a three branched candle stick for dramatic (but actually comic) effect. First time I saw theme they were supporting Def Leppard and they got away with it, but saw them "headlining" later on and that night the draught from the fog machine kept blowing it out!

Saw Gong last year. Possibly the biggest load of tosh I've ever witnessed.

Not embarassing as such, but Everything but the Girl almost sent me to sleep - whilst standing up!

Finally, I confess to seeing Heart! Got front row seats, so had a good look at Nancy Wilson but couldn't help cringing at the time (and even more now) and the bland nonsense that emanated from them.

Oh, and an interesting post script on a personal level. Three really embarassing moments from my own musical background, all with World's Apart - my old band. World's Apart performed (and still do) an eclectic mix of Hendrix, Zep, etc.

1 - early on we played a holiday camp. It was a "residency of a gig every month throughout the season. The first gig in April was a bit quiet, in fact this enormous social club had 3 people sat at the bar when we started. The owner insisted we play on, so we did. The trio at the bar were joined mid way through the first set by a family with two kiddies. We played a blistering version of Comfortably Numb with two toddlers dancing with their mum and dad on the dancefloor!

2 - at a dreadful social club in King's lynn, we were playing Money as a last song in the first set. During the instrumental in the middle, the singer did his usual amble off to the end. When he returned for the final verse he started to sing and nothing came outof the p.a. Some old giffer had unplugged it so he could get the bingo machine working!

3 - Booked by an agent to play a club in Lowestoft we set up early and disappeared to a nearby pub. Returning via the back entrance, we sat in the dressing room waiting for the call. A bloke walks in and asks if we'd mind playing happy birthday at the start. No problem we said, how old is the birthday boy/girl we ask. Eighty, he says! Oh god, we thought. We entered the stage, curtain goes back and there's 100 pensioners sat there. To cap it all, the compere jumps on stage just as we are about to start and apologises for the lumpy gravy! Two verses of Rebel Yell and the room is almost empty!!

It takes a lot to embarrass me but I saw The Human League at (I think) the Empire theatre in Liverpool in about 1996. Phil Oakey and the girls were about twice my age but about half the average age of the audience. We shuffled rhythmically from side to side in our velour seats as Phil, shorn of his famous locks and looking "muscular", belted out the hits complete with Octapad and dry ice. Half way through "Together in Electric Dreams", he attemptd a peculiar hitch-kick manoeuvre and fell flat on his bollocks, while Susanne and Jo doubled over with laughter. Actually that wasn't an embarrassing gig at all - in fact it was one of the best I've been to. The League - pioneers of pop music and lovely people into the bargain!
