This is a word-cloud exercise. Click the link below to see the word-cloud (you will need Java working in your browser).

Study the cloud and try to find groups of words which inspire you to some sort of poem. You do not need to use every word and you can add as many extra words as you need to build the scaffolding around them.

You can also adjust the words' exact forms: run -> ran, train -> trained, horse -> horses etc.

Cloud

There is no end-date for the exercise, I will put another one up in a week or so...

Ian

p.s. Guess the source of the words

No need to apologize, I find apologies
rather hollow when it's obvious
that people here are not actually sorry
and live with their misconceptions
about rules as opposed to common decency.
I don't understand what they want
and don't suppose I ever will feel right
in the wrong environment, it sucks.
Perhaps that's a good thing, I'll never know
until I sort through the many words
and decide to use them to my advantage.

My Spanish hips have woken from their siesta
and are busy entertaining the wrong sort of people.
I want to dance for you but you’re not here to see me.
Insincere apologies float amongst fruit and ice
in warm sangria, and disappear down the throats
of random undesirables taking advantage of forgotten rules.
I tango with meaningless motion beneath a piñata of good intentions,
which sways above my tipsy judgements
like God wagging a disapproving finger.
Tomorrow will I look through the window of regret
and apologise for taking a holiday from my wounded life?

Can you put beneath and above in the same sentence?

Tim and Pauline,
Very entertaining reading. It is enjoyable to see the same words use by different people. I've got to get in gear and jump in.

Enjoyed,
Suzanne

Pauline, I think it's a case of the application of those words to make sense, which you have done. It's an entertaining piece which you might want to workshop on the board.
Your presence there is always a welcome addition.

Suzanne, yes the exercises do seem to bring out a diversity of interpretations. I seem to recall that you saw it as a kind of throwing down of a gauntlet on another thread not a million miles from this one, I shall anticipate your participation with eagerness

regards

Tim

Hey cheers Tim.
Thanks for that.
I will do as you suggest and put it out there for a little feedback.
Isn't it great that we can use the same words and come up with something so completely different?
I do enjoy these word clouds.
By the way,
I enjoyed your piece,
I know exactly what you are saying.
Jobsworths, I bleep bleep hate them.

Life means you want to apologize, right?

I mean don't take advantage,
and don't take this wrong,
and don't take the last soft-centre

-- that's sort of a rule --

except there aren't any.

Thanks, Tim, for the call to rise to the challenge, I fell for it. The temptation to write instead of (insert any duty here) is always easily let in my door.

And always, thanks Ian for the words.

I have edited and will place it above my original version. i'm not completely satisfied with the rhythm or rhyme but it may have some potential, maybe. Cheers.

Weekend at Home or
Beneath a Happy Wife

He works hard all week,
wires to modems, conference calls,
installations behind partitioned walls
bends into the rules of this life
never questions his own wrongs and rights.
His only grey area grows on his head,
and for that, he doesn't apologize.

On Saturdays, stays all day in bed,
wild hair mussed and unshaven,
fresh sheets, warm wife, he's said,
she's his own little piece of heaven,
and for that, he makes no apologies.

A fashion of a very good man,
the sort of who will take
what is honestly given and can
use it to family's advantage.
Head on his pillow at night
he knows he has all that he might
and is humbled, asks her, "Is it right?
It's more than I've ever dreamed of."

First attempt-
Weekend at Home- Ode to A Husband

He works hard all week,
wires to modems, conference calls,
installations behind partitioned walls
bends into the rules of life
and he never questions
between wrong and right.
His only gray area grows on his head,
and for that he doesn't apologize.

On Saturdays, he stays in bed,
grey hair mussed and unshaven,
fresh sheets, warm wife, he said,
it's his own small piece of heaven.
Not concerned with what people think,
he makes no apologies.

A fashion of a very good man,
the sort of who will eagerly take
what is given and can
use it to his advantage.
Head on his pillow at night
rests knowing he has what he wants
and is humbled. Asks, is it right?
It's more than he ever dreamed.

Dante -- a nice twist at the end of this exploration of how people want to be seen and perceived by others...

Pauline -- "piñata of good intentions" is a striking image... I like the way you have illustrated this moment of abandon.

Paisley -- glad you are getting multiple revisions from this. It has got potential I think, possibly needs to be a bit slimmer and maybe illustrate some things which are shown (e.g. I think you could skip line one as it is implicit in the following lines...) I think I like S2 best of the current draft...

Thanks all,

Ian
