Ahh, forgot about Updike, nice one.

A few contemporary Brits: Jackie Kay, John Burnside, Fred D'Aguiar, Lavinia Greenlaw. I haven't read the novels of the last two so can't comment. I like Burnide's fiction very much, probably more than his poetry.
