The Centrifugal Eye
That's a fine looking magazine David. A fine poem too, I remember that one well, or at least a version of it. Wasn't it longer once?

Yes, a very nice looking mag David. Well done.

Thanks all.
Yes, it was longer once, Nash. I had some abridged Leopardi in there, but Peter encouraged me to take it out, saying I didn't need it. When I came to look at the poem again, I decided he was right.
Catherine, it occurs to me that I was remiss in not congratulating you on your Pushcart Prize nomination. That is actually quite a big deal, isn't it? Best of luck with it anyway.

That looks nice, David. Congrats!
Tantalisingly, on their 'submissions' notes they say:
"There's an average of 150,000 words in many standard dictionaries, yet the same 25 words show up repeatedly in nearly every 2 out of 3 poems editors receive."
What might those 25 words be...??!

I hadn't seen that! What we must do - this must be one of those things that are available on the www - is find out what they are; then our next competition can be to write a decent poem using as many of them as possible.calico wrote:Tantalisingly, on their 'submissions' notes they say:

I don't know how we find out what the offending words are, save by process of elimination. We read every poem they publish, on the assumption that these do not contain the offending words. Cross referencing with a Standard English Dictionary, we eliminate these and fingers crossed there'll be 25 words left! Yay! Yay? Who's with me? Hmmmm?
I wonder if it's words like 'ancient', 'shards' and 'miasma' or words like 'bird', 'blue','grey' (speaking for myself here).

We could have good fun guessing. I'm going with moon, sea and wind. Of course I have an advantage, having just read 500 poems...
