Hmmm.
Not sure this one is working.
I wanted a dreamscape (is there such a word  ) as opposed to a seascape.
I wanted cloudy water with movement rather than waves, but I feel it is too white.
I am also aware that the stones (I've PVA'd half my side garden onto this  ) should get smaller in the distance.
I could argue they are bigger stones
The colours are also not true. They have photographed paler :|

This picture was inspired by JJ Williams love for Trow Rock and curiosity had me take a dander on over to South Shields to see his images come to life. :D

It seems a tradional seascape, the black stones in the lower right hand corner throw the perspective out a bit. I think the sky and rocks look fine, the sky is especially appealing.

Hey Pauline! Did you actually GO to South Shields?

I was there not so long ago and took a series of photos of these very rocks. I've been meaning to paint them. Honestly.
We used to call the small beach "Pebble Beach" for obvious reasons. Sometimes all the pebbles would disappear, only to
return with the next storm or winter.

The rocks are locally known as the Three Sisters, even though there are four. :) (one of them, the middle one, broke in half).

Don't be so quick to condemn your work btw. The colour of the rocks is spot on and I recognised them immediately.
You've presented a very interesting angle, showing the much grander Target Rock in the background. Marsden Rock is a short walk
in that direction, round the corner and along the coast. It approx' a mile away.

The scene is great with the mixed medium working a treat. Yes, I can see what you mean about the perspective with the little rocks/pebbles,
but this IS art. It looks great! Incidentally, I like both versions.

Here's one of the photos I took (actually, Jack took this one) when we last wandered around this neck of the woods.

Best

dear Pauline

what i enjoy about this canvas
is a fine blend of surrealism & abstract figural landscape
in a way that there is no direct impact of vanishing point
and the eye is left the freedom to wander
allowing even the sky to perhaps
be perceived as sea

it's almost at the edges of photography in between a 28mm lens and a fisheye modification

and in an array of grayscale it does for me indeed also offer a greater realm of welcome

thankyuuu
for sharing

Cheers Ross.
The stones look darker in the photo than they actually are.
They are in shadow . I did paint them darker so as to look wet, however, I totally see what you mean re perspective.
Thanks for pointing that out. I will adjust accordingly. :)

Yay. Cheers Ross. Thanks for that. :)

Erm. OK. No I didn't.
It was a virtual visit courtesy of Google Maps.
I do however intend to go once the weather picks up. :)

:D Phew.
I am so relieved you liked this.
I know this is your special place and I so wanted it to work for you.
You, of all people would know if it rang true.
Your photo is fab.

Hi Paulin,

If it is a result of inspiration, it is already a plus!

The small rocks gathering together in the front made me think they are close to the shore or in the shallow water?

Appreciate your creation.
