And all the while she took that shimm'ring vial:
Decent upon great ballrooms perfumes, while
There was I, perplexed and hurting so,
Embarked upon great journeys through the snow
Falling unto throws of white desire,
Composed beyond the breath of earthly fire,
To pain me so and soar amidst the stars;
Those spirit-guzzling, shimmering, peopled bars.
An anthem for doomed modernity plays
Where every topt woman, drunken, lays.

Hi Tark
Sorry but I'm afraid this is horrible. Abstract, archaic and full of predictable rhymes. It also contains elision which died out as a poetic technique over 100 years ago. It's not even an example of regular meter.
Cheers

The poem does seem a wee bit dated. Not that there's anything wrong in that, I'm sure it had its devotees but I prefer more modern poetry. Tried your web page but it doesn't seem to work. Have you tried your hand at more modern stuff?
Off to look up "elision". It rings a bell, I'm thinking of a phrase I think I've heard before, 'elision fields' but probably should have googled before posting

those would be the Elysian Fields...
if you've some good headache medicine, find my poem "The Elysian Nomad" about 15 or 20 pages back. you may suffer, but hey, that's what drugs are for.
