A slight loss
Playing a few hot licks
on a dusty black Stratocaster
takes me right back
to the glowing valves
and overdriven distortion.
Girls danced like loons
high on red Lebanese draw
and talked nonsense
in-between, yea maaan
and the odd hysterical fit.
Sparkling balls in halls
where we played the songs
of rock-gods, seemed
to instil ethereal visions
upon their consciousnesses.
Even during these times
older boys or “young men”
as we preferred to be
known, would act cool
until the head-banging tunes.
My hand glides across
metal frets where harmonics
bounce off the strings
and I can still hear them,
when the volume is turned up.
.
A slight loss

Tim,
You have written two things this week that speak to me deeply. ... (and Mesmie just did, too. What perfect company I am in!)
This was such a great grab of the moment. Wow. wow,
I could almost smell the air in the place. It makes me want to go out and find a live band to watch tonight. Maybe, I 'll take out the woodstock files.
to the glowing valves
and overdriven distortion- I loved this line and can hear it in my head. Let them glow, a little distortion adds to the charm.
and talked nonsense
in-between, yea maaan- what? girls talking nonsense? I don't understand this line, lol.
of rock-gods, seemed
to instil ethereal visions
upon their consciousnesses. I would change the "their" to "our" , my opinion.
when the volume is turned up.--- wonderful last line. Really good closure.
I loved this and will be listening to a little of Jimmy tonight,
Great write, good memories,
Suzanne

This rocks, m-a-a-a-a-n! Yeah, this reminds of Jimmy Hendrix!
Thanks all, for the replies, greatly appreciated.
Suzanne, I am sticking with "their" as it´s the audience I am concerned with, but thanks for the thought.
Many thanks
Danté

to anticipate touching what is unseen seems far more interesting than seeing what the hand can not touch
