I thought the image was forced. Like, you wanted to write a poem about broken relationships, grabbed onto an image and just played with the language until it "worked." "You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you"...and I don't think it makes a good example of romance, or sex, or heart-ache, either.
